Episode 4: Legislating Against Women
“It doesn’t matter if you wear a hijab or you don’t, we need to come together, not fight each other.”
The Guardian Council has systematically limited the rights of women from its very inception. There are so many restrictions on the movement to bans on attendance in sporting events to limits on the rights of women as parents.
In this episode, we review Iran’s failure to sign and ratify the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Violence Against Women.
We examine the motives and roles of institutions such as the Assembly of Experts and the Guardian Council in violating women’s civil and human rights.
