Hadi Tahan Nazif was born in Dezful during the war between Iran and Iraq and is the youngest member of the Guardian Council. In fact, he’s young enough to be Ayatollah Jannati’s grandson. When Nazif was born, Jannati was already a seated member of the Guardian Council.
Nazif studied law at Imam Sadegh University where Ayatollah Mahdavi Kani the former Chairman of the Assembly of Experts was the dean. In 2013, he completed a PhD from Tehran University.
While studying, Nazif was mentored by Professor Abbas Ali Kadkhodaie who helped him to enter government. Kadkhodaie was the right-hand man of Ahmad Jannati in the Guardian Council when he became Nazif’s PhD advisor. When he completed the PhD, Nazif gained membership to the Scientific Board of Legal Rights of Imam Sadegh and became the educational deputy of the law faculty.
In 2008, while working on his PhD, Nazif became a member of Ahmadinejad’s government as deputy for Legal and Parliamentary Affairs. At that time, his mentor, Kadkhodaie, was Legal Advisor of the Guardian Council. Nazif had many activities related to the occurrences of the 2009 Presidential Elections.
Nazif also worked as a secretary for the Guardian Council. For about ten years he was working alongside both Ahamd Jannati and Abbasali Kadkhodaie, the Secretary and Spokesperson of the Council, recording the minutes of sessions and arranging the agenda for Guardian Council meetings.
In 2019 he was nominated by Ebrahim Raisi, the current Head of the Judiciary, for a position as a legal scholar on the Guardian Council. In June 2019, when Nazif was just 36 years old, he got 156 votes from members of parliament and successfully entered the council as its youngest member. The support for Nazif was coordinated by Abbas Papizadeh the Dezful representative inside Parliament and his extensive network.
