1989 — Iran’s House of Cinema, also known as The Iranian Alliance of Motion Picture Guilds, was formed by the Ministry of Islamic Guidance and Culture.
Establishment
House of Cinema (the Iranian alliance of motion picture guilds) began as the Iranian Alliance of Motion Picture Guilds in 1989 with members of the board of directors appointed by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
Registration as a non-government organization was in March 1993. In October of that year, House of Cinema began operation under that name.
Objectives
Among the principle objectives of the establishment of House of Cinema are:
- To protect and maintain the financial and non-financial rights of the “decent and dedicated” individuals and groups involved in the production, distribution, and screening of films;
- To provide social and job security for all members; and
- To provide continuing education for professionals.
The principal constituent bodies of the House of Cinema are:
- Board of the Founders
- General Assembly
- Board of Directors
- Inspector
The General Assembly, comprising official representatives from the House of Cinema’s member trade guilds, is the highest decision making body. Member guilds include:

- Central Council of the Iranian Association of Screenwriters
- Central Council of the Association of Iranian Screen Actors

- Central Council of the Iranian Association of Sound Engineering
- Central Council of the Iranian Association of Makeup Artists
- Central Council of the Film Editors Guild of Iran
- Central Council of the Association of Iranian Composers
- Central Council of the Iranian Association of Still Photographers
- Central Council of the Iranian Association of Second Assistant Directors
- Central Council of the Iranian Dubbing Association
- Central Council of the Iranian Association of Special Effects Artists
- Central Council of the Iranian Association of Production Managers

In general the duties of these guilds are to:
- Examine the financial and operation reports of the board of directors and the inspector;
- Appoint members of the board of directors in accordance with the terms of article 25 and its notes, appointing the inspector in accordance with the terms of articles 40 and 41 and the related notes;
- Discharge the board of directors and the inspector in accordance with note 2 of article 20;
- Survey and approve regulations of the arbitration bodies of the House of Cinema;
- Approve salaries for the board of directors and the inspector;
- Approve membership of new guilds and terminate membership of the existing member guilds;
- Advertise;
- Examine and approve the formation of institutes and companies affiliated with the House of Cinema;
- Examine and approve other proposals within the framework of powers of the general assembly of the House of Cinema.
